"The Gambler's Last Deal" Christmas & Hits

Since the release of Kenny Rogers’ first-ever Christmas album back in 1981 titled Christmas, Rogers has embarked on an annual Christmas & Hits Tour where he performs holiday favorites and a large selection of hits at concerts across North America.

Rogers announced late last year on NBC’s Today show that the world tour he is currently on would be his final time performing around the globe. So this year’s 35th edition of his annual Christmas & Hits tour, with special guest Linda Davis, will indeed be his last. After more than five decades of touring and entertaining the world, Rogers’ farewell tour, “The Gambler’s Last Deal,” is underway and expected to run into 2017 due to popular demand.

“Christmas has always been a special time of year to me,” Rogers said. “The feeling I get performing on the Christmas tour is one of the things I’ll really miss about not being on the road. We will be sure to take extra time to cherish some moments on this last go around, and I hope as many people as possible will be able to join us in creating a new set of holiday memories.”

"Special Consensus is a superb bluegrass outfit in a classic vein but with more than enough modern sensibilities to attract every ear in this now pleasantly fractionating genre. The vocals are spotless, the playing as shiny as a newly minted penny, and music like this is the reason people come to love bluegrass… Special Consensus approaches this hallowed American musical form with boundless energy and an aesthetic reverence that tickles the ribs, tugs at the heart, and puts a restless two-step in boots and bare feet. The lead cut, Signs, is emblematic of the entire [new] CD, bursting with high spirits, energy refusing to sit still, precision so tight you can set your watch by it, and pure musicality so infectious that there lives nary a soul that will be able to turn its born and bred ears from tilting leeward to get a better listen..." ~ Mark S. Tucker, The Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange.

When talking about some of his earliest musical experiences, he'll mention listening to his Dad's 60's record collection and recalling pivotal moments; like being mesmerized by the poetry and mystery of Bob Dylan’s early recordings and being drawn in by the Rickenbacker guitar sound and vocal harmonies of the Byrds. Sure, he listened and loved the music of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Stones, but it wasn’t until he heard Neil Young’s seminal classic Harvest that he found his inspirational mother lode. Later, discovering the world of both classic and “new traditionalist” hillbilly music that WHN radio introduced to New York City (from Merle Haggard and George Jones to Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle), the American tradition of story and song became Dave Murphy’s compass.

It's a labor of love.

"The dust has settled after Railaway's final show. The lead vocalist of one of Baltimore's favorite local rock bands has transitioned from big name music venues and local radio spins to weekly shows at a local tavern. Experimenting with instrumentation and revisiting his earlier acoustic guitar days, a banjo, kick drum and tambourine have all found their way into the mix.

The energetic one-man-band is a product of 7 years of shows, mind-numbing studio hours and life in a rock band. The style echos the post Railaway era, but the music has found new life. The new sound is finding its way into the ears of a new wave of rock-folk and alt-country music fans in the Baltimore/DC/Virginia area.

After years of working on his music,  Tyler Deveau, from St. George, New Brunswick, Canada, releases his first EP "Good Time to Be Us" . One of the songs, Heavensville, was co-written by Brad Rempel of High Valley.

Tyler says on Facebook: "It's so easy to put aside/forget the feelings I get from my songs I recorded in Nashville after hearing them so many times... But taking the time to sit down and listen to each song's melody, grooves and lyrics; the feelings and memories of getting the opportunity to record songs in the same studio Willie Nelson and Lee Brice used, they come rushing back. Chills and maybe a slight tear, reminds me that coming from playing in my bedroom, so no one can hear, to playing at Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Canadian Country Music Week, and playing two gigs in Nashville, along with recording songs with professionals, dreams DO come true to small town people. Never get too caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, that you forget how fortunate and blessed you really are. I can say that after a couple of rough years of being at the bottom of the barrel with personal struggles with depression and anxiety, I can actually say, "I LOVE MY LIFE"!!! ‪

Ilya Toshinskiy has always been a bluegrass lover. That fact was beautifully established in the opening scene of the 2003 documentary “The Ballad of Bering Strait,” which follows the brief but memorable trajectory of his former band. A teenage Ilya, in his final exam on banjo at an elite Russian music academy in Moscow, introduces his program — a Bela Fleck number followed by “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” to professors who are clearly unfamiliar with bluegrass music. By the end of the performance, they are believers.

So it should come as no surprise that Ilya’s new solo album, Red Grass (Hadley Music Group), is an instrumental bluegrass album and a dream come true for Toshinskiy. Though acclaimed for his guitar prowess, he considers banjo his first instrument. While being trained in classical guitar as a preteen, Ilya heard another student of his teacher, a bluegrass enthusiast, playing banjo and was mesmerized. He insisted on learning that instrument and quickly excelled, soaking up the influence of Earl Scruggs and others.

Nudie: "Everything's Different In The Night" (2016). New Album.

Listen to and Download on Amazon

t’s Sunday afternoon in 1972.  Young Nudie and his 7 siblings are piled into their father’s ’69 Buick Wildcat on the way to their uncle’s country home in Southwestern Ontario.  They’ll be riding horses on western saddles, checking out the newest trophies from pistol shooting competitions, and watching “Hee Haw” on one of two colour TVs. But what Nudie is most looking forward to is listening to Uncle Jack play his late 40s script logo Gibson J45 guitar: “Seeing Buck Owens & Don Rich, and hearing my uncle pick and sing is where the seeds of my love of all things heartbreak & twang started.”

It is only fitting that Uncle Jack’s photo should grace the cover of the Nudie & The Turks album, Looking For A Good Time, released in 2008.  The record was the result of a band Nudie formed in his latest residence of Charlottetown, PEI, after soaking up musical experiences in Toronto, Montreal, Phoenix, Austin and New York City.  Why so much traveling?  “That’s what the world’s for” quips Nudie.
