“The Addict” is a song about addiction that seeks to remind us that addicts are human beings. A tune dedicated to Ellerman´s son.
The song reflects the isolation, the fear, the loneliness, and the desperate cry to be loved and understood in spite of the affliction that haunts them.
Written by the father of an addict, and originally intended to raise awareness while his son was in recovery, The Addict instead is now a posthumous tribute to the son he so tragically lost to an overdose shortly after the song was recorded late in 2017.
In 2016, 64,000 people, more than all the men and women who fought and died in Vietnam, died from drug overdoses in the Unites States. Ellerman says: “My son is gone and I can’t bring him back. My hope now is that this song may lead to understanding, that can lead to healing, not only for the addict, but for their families and friends who love them”.
