The day the King came back. George Strait live at the 54th ACM Awards

George Strait gave a moving performance of 'God and Country Music' at 2019 ACM Awards. These are the clips of his historic performance. Wearing a simple black blazer and coordinating cowboy hat, the King of Country performed the moving ballad with a full band, backdropped by slideshow of beautiful landscapes and other graphics. “Come hell or high water, there's two things still worth savin'/ God and country music,” he sang.

"God and Country Music” appears on Strait’s thirtieth studio album Honky Tonk Time Machine. Watch a clip of his performance below.

Country icon George Strait and Miranda Lambert offered up a flashback to simpler days with a tag-team performance at the 54th ACM Awards. They shared the stage for a smile-inducing rendition of Strait’s 2001 hit, “Run.”

Standing side by side with a neon-lit cityscape behind them, the Texan duo traded warm glances throughout the delicate song – with Lambert wearing a fringy-frilly red cowgirl outfit and Strait looking dapper as always in a black coat and hat. All about two lovers separated by space and circumstance, but longing to reconnect, the emotional track was most notable for what it didn’t have. In an era defined by outside influence, this performance featured no pounding drums, synthesizers or auto-tuned rap verses. Instead it was just steel guitar, mandolin and piano, plus a pair of open hearts and pure-country class.

As reported by Billboard, “George Strait extends his record for the most No. 1s in the five-decade history of Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, as the King of Country logs his 27th leader with the chart-topping debut of Honky Tonk Time Machine.”

Produced by George Strait and Chuck Ainley, Honky Tonk Time Machine includes 13 tracks, eight of which were written by Strait himself. The album includes “Sing One with Willie” featuring Willie Nelson and Strait's own take on the Johnny Paycheck classic “Old Violin.”

“I’m really excited to have some new music,” shares Strait. “It’s been about two years since I’ve released a record. It was great writing with Bubba and Dean again and creating such a beautiful song with Bubba and Jeff Hyde. Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend Willie Nelson. I hope everyone enjoys listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Strait’s loyal fans also propelled his current single “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar” to the Top 20 on the country music charts. “‘Every Little Honky Tonk Bar’ offers a variation on the title track’s good-times escapism, in this case with a vivid image of ‘the stool [that] holds the fool that pours the whiskey on his broken heart,’” notes the Los Angeles Times.

Strait kicked off his album launch with a sold-out show at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Performing hits from across his 30+ year career plus debuting songs from the new album, the Atlanta Journal Constitution notes, “More than 50,000 sang along heartily” with Strait, “a guy who can command a massive audience merely by tapping his right boot heel.”
