The Detentions, Dan Sullivan and Chris Hillier, are proud to celebrate their 11th year of performing together and the release of their third studio album, aptly titled “Three.” This is the second project helmed and produced by the incredibly talented Ron Flynt (20/20 Band) at his Jumping Dog Studios in Austin, TX.
The Detentions style of music, known as “Rockamole” to their fans, is a fresh breath of Hill Country happy hour meeting chords from the Gulf Coast. Their sound, big guitars and signature harmonies, highlight heart felt lyrics, memorable melodies, an ability to laugh at themselves and the appreciation of the people around them.
The album “Three” features ten songs, including covers of Donny Brewer’s “Fishin’ on Credit” and the Great Divide’s “Pour Me a Vacation.” The tunes “A Little Less Beer on the Island” and “Liki Tiki” are instantly familiar as a Port Aransas sunset. They show their Texas side in “Terlingua” and their love of a good ghost story with the haunting “Lantern on the Tracks.” While the beautiful “Shining” celebrates the love you have, “Not that Girl” ponders what could have been, and “Ash and Smoke” explores the dangers of decisions made in the heat of passion. Beautiful and heart breaking, “The Window,” closes the album remembering those who are gone but not forgotten.
The Detentions assembled an all-star line-up of Austin’s finest to play on “Three:” Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson), Warren Hood (Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris), Marvin Dykhuis (Ray Wylie Hubard, Woody Guthrie), Chip Dolan (Bruce Robison, Jimmy Lafave), Donny Brewer (Live Like Jimmy Buffett, Zimzala), and Ron Flynt (20/20 Band, The Drakes).
The Detentions are geared up for a great 2016 with CD release parties booked in New Orleans at the Pardi-Gras music festival, the Leander Beer Market with special guest Donny Brewer, The Railean Distillery in San Leon, Texas, and The Hard Rock Café in Detroit, Michigan. Other shows booked for 2016 are: Margaritaville in Chicago, Illinois, and the Wounded Warriors benefit opening for eight-time consecutive winner of the CMA Musician of the Year award and Coral Reefer Mac McAnally in Detroit, Michigan. A two-week tour will find The Detentions playing the Gulf Coast and southern Florida in June.
